Erestor curled up against Glorfindel in front of the crackling fire. It was
a week before Rhîvereth* and Erestor, despite being with his lover, felt a
twinge of regret that he wouldn't be with his family. There was no way to
visit them; the distance was too great. As Glorfindel's arm held him loosely
he thought of past holiday seasons. "My mother and I would always decorate
a tree around this time," he said a twinge of longing in his voice as he
stared into the fire.
Glorfindel gazed down at his lover, caressing him softly. "You miss them,
don't you?" he asked softly, brushing his lips against Erestor's forehead.
Erestor nodded. "Aye, I do, Glorfindel. I miss them so much. Especially this
time of year. It's.It was my favorite season," the dark haired Elf murmured.
"I just miss it," he said softly.
Glorfindel looked at him a moment. "Are you ready for bed?" he murmured,
picking the Elf up when he nodded. The warrior carried Erestor into their
chambers and laid him on the bed. By the time he had crawled under the
sheets, Erestor was asleep and in his dreams was humming Rhîvereth carols.
The blond sighed softly, making a decision; he would do anything for his
love.
~~~
The next day Erestor awoke mid-afternoon. He glanced outside, watching the
falling snow. There were huge snowflakes and he smiled. "Hey Glorfindel!" he
called, climbing out of bed and hurrying into the other room. The dark
haired Elf frowned when he didn't see his lover.
Erestor sighed, looking at the rack where they hung their cloaks;
Glorfindel's cloak was gone. He furrowed his dark brow a bit. Where could
Glorfindel gone, and without telling him? He glanced outside a moment and
saw the snow had picked up to almost a blinding rate. Was Glorfindel out in
this? His lover was kind of Empty-headed at times and it wouldn't surprise
Erestor if he had decided to go hunting or something of the like.
The advisor sighed, going into the kitchen and placing some water on the
stove to boil. He watched it for a moment before getting out the tea and
cinnamon hard candy. He grabbed a piece out of it and sucked on it, making a
face at the strength of it. He quickly took a drink of water, coughing
slightly. He shook his head. 'Know better than to do that again,' he thought
to himself.
The door slammed as the kettle whistled and he quickly put the tea in it
before running to the living room. There before him stood a snow covered,
soaking wet Glorfindel. The blond looked frozen through and through and a
scowl was plastered on his face. He sighed a moment before opening the door,
letting in a cold draft. He reached out and, with a loud grunt, managed to
drag a large evergreen inside. "Where do you want it?" he grunted, glancing
back at Erestor.
Erestor's eyes widened. "Glorfindel!" he squealed, running to give the other
a kiss and a tight hug, his face bright with excitement.
Glorfindel's face softened somewhat at that and he smiled slightly at
Erestor. "Where do you want it, Pen velui*?" He asked, short of breath. His
arms began to burn under the weight of the large tree.
Erestor glanced around, practically bouncing. He pointed to an empty corner
on the far side of the room. "That is the perfect spot!" he squealed and
clapped his hands when Glorfindel had finally heaved it into place.
"I'm glad it made you happy, melethron**," Glorfindel said tiredly, walking
back to close the door and shed his wet cloak and scarf.
"Now help me string popcorn!" Erestor said, eyes sparkling brightly.
"But." Glorfindel started to protest, glancing at his lover. It had been so
long since he had seen Erestor look so happy."All right, fine, but let me
undress and warm up first," he conceded.
Erestor grinned. "I'll pop the popcorn! Hurry up!" he said, bouncing as he
hurried into the kitchen. "I'll have spiced tea ready for you!"
~~~
Erestor had set out several bowls of popcorn and string plus two needles. He
smiled when Glorfindel came into the kitchen, wearing his heavy night robe.
"Warmed up?" he asked, handing him a cup of spiced tea.
Glorfindel nodded slightly, pushing his golden hair back from his face. He
accepted the mug and took a sip of the spiced tea. "It's delicious, Erestor",
he complimented, smiling at his lover.
Erestor beamed, giving the Elda another hug before dragging him into the
living room. "Help me string the popcorn!" he demanded, smiling happily at
Glorfindel.
Glorfindel sighed softly but nodded. "All right.but you owe me big, mister.
It was freezing outside and that tree was very, very heavy."
Erestor stopped a moment before smiling again. "Thank you, Glorfindel," he
said sincerely, "You have no idea how much it means to me to have a tree.and
to be able to do all this."
"I would do anything to make you happy, Erestor," Glorfindel said, smiling
slightly. "I just hope I don't have to go in that snow again anytime soon.
It's devilishly cold outside."
"You mean we can't build a snowman?" Erestor said in mock disappointment.
He giggled softly as he took up a needle, carefully threading string through
the eye. "There," he said as he knotted it, handing it to Glorfindel,
smiling brightly at him. Then doing the same with the other needle, starting
to pick up popcorn and tediously stringing it together.
Glorfindel cursed inwardly each time the needle poked his finger instead of
the popcorn. "Erestor, I'm not very good at this," he complained, holding up
his bloodied finger. "Isn't there something else I could do?" he asked,
sucking on the finger slightly.
Erestor shook his head. "No, you have to help me string the popcorn. He
reached in the basket that the thread was in and pulled out a metal that was
shaped like the top of a finger. "Slip this on your finger and you won't
poke yourself anymore," he instructed with a smile. "I'll make it up to
later," he promised.
Glorfindel sighed, shaking his head. "You better, Chief Advisor," he
muttered grumpily, knowing that he really would be rewarded well for all his
trouble.

The midsummer sun, the season that coincides with my memories
taken away by the wind, never to reach you again.
