You say you do, maybe you even think it is the truth, but I know
better. I see the way you look at me, trying to find him, the one
you lost.

We share the same dark hair, grey eyes and slender build. I have
seen pictures - we could have been brothers so close alike we look.
That is why you stay with me, because for you I am a living memory.

You never call my name in bed. There are moans and cries, yes, but
never names. I think it is because you are afraid you will call his
name rather than mine. You think I do not know that your heart still
yearns for him, but you are wrong. I know all too well.

Why then do I stay? I will never be Ecthelion, I will always be
second best. And one day when he returns at last, I know I will be
dropped and forgotten. But I cannot help it. Though you will never
love me, I will always love you.
