A/N: I promised her this awhile ago, but RL intervened. Then I saw
today she had a bad day and I just HAD to get it finished.
If ever I would leave you
It wouldn't be in summer.
Seeing you in summer I never would go.
Your hair streaked with sun-light,
Your lips red as flame,
Your face with a lustre
that puts gold to shame!
Erestor stood next to his Lord and the other Elves, who were seeing
their warrior's off. Thranduil had called for aid, as Dol Guldur
had awoken once more. The last they had heard of the Nine Walkers
was that they had made it safely to Lothlorien and were making their
way towards Mordor.
Now their warriors had been called to arms, the threat to Thranduil
from Dol Guldur something to which they could not say no. Erestor
watched as the warriors mounted up, his eyes searching out
Glorfindel as he fought his emotions at watching his lover make
ready to lead them out.
Blue eyes met his from across the courtyard and he was graced with a
dazzling smile. He took a deep shuddering breath and smiled back,
determined not to show the full extent of his worry. Glorfindel
called for them to move out and just as he got ready to pass through
the gates, he turned once more, his eyes meeting Erestors in a
silent promise to return.
Erestor made his way back into the Last Homely House and to his
office. He needed something, anything, to occupy his mind. He
dipped his head, swiping at tears that he hoped no one else would
see. It would not do for others to see the dour councilor of Elrond
crying.
Picking up his pen, he pulled out a piece of parchment and prepared
to finish the report he had been working on earlier. After a moment
of staring at the page, unable to focus, he chose a fresh sheet and
began the first of many missives he would send his departed love.
Weeks passed with no word, and all grew more worried with each
passing day. Erestor was losing sleep as well as losing weight, for
no matter the draughts Elrond gave him or the food his Lord tried to
get him to eat, he could not do either.
"Erestor!"
Erestor looked up, watching as Elrond came into his office smiling
and waving a scroll.
"My Lord?"
"I have something here that may be of interest to you."
Erestor took the proferred scroll and removed the ribbon. After
breaking the seal he unrolled it and glanced at the writing, his
eyes filling with tears. He looked up when he felt Elrond squeeze
his shoulder and watched as his Lord left the office, closing the
door behind him and leaving Erestor alone with the letter.
But if I'd ever leave you,
It couldn't be in autumn.
How I'd leave in autumn I never will know.
I've seen how you sparkle
When fall nips the air.
I know you in autumn
And I must be there.
My Dearest Erestor,
The journey has been difficult. The winter clings to the Greenwood,
baring the trees to the bitter winds. Even the spring rains are cold
as sleet and the mud and swollen rivers have made travel by mount
impossible for many leagues. We joined up with Thranduil's warriors
in the north country, and though they have shown us the utmost
hospitality the mood around the camp is grim and strained.
We have had several clashes with the orcs as they seem to be in
great numbers here, but we have had no problem in cutting down their
numbers. The beasts that give us the most problems is the ungol.
Our warriors from Imladris are not trained to deal with them, and
though we have not lost any of our warriors yet, we have lost
several mounts to the spider's poison.
Thinking of you, and the love we have shared these last ten years,
is what has been keeping me sane in all of this. After each bout of
fighting with the spawn of Melkor I cannot help but think of you and
why I am doing this.
With each orc that falls and each ungol slain, we come closer to
ridding Arda of the foulness that poisons it. Each time we are
triumphant it is *you* who are kept safe, and it is another day
closer to me being home and safe in your arms.
And *that* is my greatest wish.
I know not how long we will be here, but the thoughts of your beauty
and passion, your love and commitment, are what makes this all the
more easier to bear. When I lay wrapped in my cloak next to the
fire, your face is all that I see. The horror's of this wood fall
away to leave your shining brightness before me.
I miss the taste of your lips and the shine in your eyes when you
tell me you love me. The thoughts of your body flushed with spent
passion while you lay in my arms keeps me warm at night. I know not
how long we will be out here, but *you* are what keeps me going when
all seems for naught.
When we do finally make it home, the first thing I wish to do is to
take you in my arms and just smell you. To let the scent of you
wash over me, roses and midnight, moonshine and the wild promise of
a storm. Then I wish to taste your lips, tart and sweet like the
pomegranate. Their heat like flame.
Remember that I do this for you Erestor. I do this for our love and
for the promise of our futures. You are my warmth on cold nights,
and my hope when all others despair. I *will* come home to you one
day soon and then I will never leave your side again.
I love you, Erestor.
Forever,
Glorfindel
And could I leave you
running merrily through the snow?
Or on a wintry evening
when you catch the fire's glow?
Erestor smiled through his tears, his eyes closing for a moment as
he lay the letter down on his desk. He silently prayed to the Valar
that Glorfindel would be sent home to him soon. He picked the
letter up and read through it once again, his smile still upon his
face and looked up when he heard a voice being cleared.
"Was the letter to your liking?"
"Aye, My Lord. He says they will come home soon."
Elrond nodded. "I have recieved word that Dol Guldur has fallen and
the One Ring has been destroyed. Aye, he will be home soon my
friend."
A week later Erestor found himself hurrying through the halls of the
Last Homely House, they had recieved word from their warriors that
they would arrive on the morrow. Glorfindel would be here! He was
scurrying around to make sure all was prepared for the homecoming
celebration.
Suddenly he yelped.
He was pulled into grabbed from behind and whirled dizzyingly into a
pair of strong arms. Arms that were familiar to him and made him
feel safe. The Elf holding him buried his nose into Erestor's hair
and inhaled deeply.
"Mmm, roses and midnight, moonshine and the wild promise of a
storm." Was whispered softly into his ear.
"Glorfindel?"
He was pulled tighter and he only had a moment to look into those
beloved blue eyes before soft lips took his. He melted into the
embrace and opened to his lover like a budding flower under the
first spring sun. The kiss spoke promises of love and passion,
tenderness and wild storms. It demanded and gave.
"Tart and sweet like a pomegranate," was murmured softly against his
kiss swollen lips.
"You are early."
"I could not stay away a moment longer. Erestor, being away from
you as I was has made me realize one thing."
"What is that, my love?"
"I love you and no longer do I wish to be parted from you like
this. I want you to always be with me Erestor. I want you to bind
your fea to mine."
Tears filled Erestor's eyes. "Aye, I will bind with you."
He was pulled once more into a kiss. A kiss that promised a forever
love.
If ever I would leave you,
How could it be in spring-time?
Knowing how in spring I'm bewitched by you so?
Oh, no! not in spring-time!
Summer, winter or fall!
No, never could I leave you at all!
